Bhandaripokhari: Idols of Trinity, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath got singed following a massive fire broke out in the Jagannath temple at Sarapada village of Ramchandrapur panchayat under this block in Bhadrak district Sunday afternoon.
While the incident shocked the wife of the founder of the temple who went on weeping inconsolably, villagers took it as an ill omen and refrained from cooking food in their respective houses.
Sources said, a villager, Subhendu Sahu, first noticed smoke bellowing out of the temple at about 12.30 pm. He broke open the temple door only to find the trinity got singed in fire. As the news spread, hundreds of villagers thronged at the temple.
While the cause of accident was yet to be ascertained, the villagers suspected it to be nothing but an accident. None could be behind this act.
Some villagers are said to have set out for Puri to consult pandits at the Mukti Mandap.
