Bhubaneswar: Odisha cueist Subrat Das completed a treble Thursday in the Steve Davis Cup billiards and snooker tournament at Ranchi. Subrat who had earlier won the billiards and 10-Red snooker titles in the meet also emerged champion in the 6-Red Snooker format with a dominating 5-0 win his statemate Soubhagya Behera in the summit clash.
Subrat never allowed Soubhagya to build momentum. After winning the first frame comfortably, Subrat struck a break of 74 which incidentally is the second highest by any Odisha player outside the state. Ashutosh Padhy has highest break against his name when he got 75 points on a single visit to the table in a tournament in Cuttack, last year.
Within just 16 minutes of the final, Subrat sealed the third frame. Subrat’s gameplay completely outfoxed Soubhagya as the former reigned supreme by sealing the last two frames comprehensively to bag the 6-Red title.
Subrat bagged a total cash prize of Rs 37,000, including Rs 10,000 each for winning three events in the meet, Rs 5,000 for the highest break in snooker and Rs 2,000 for the highest break (50) in billiards.
On the other hand, Soubhagya finished with cash prizes worth Rs 8,000 – Rs 4,000 each for his runner-up finishes in the 10-Red Snooker and 6-red Snooker formats.
