Cuttack: Hosts Odisha were 133 for the loss of three wickets in their three-day under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy encounter against Tripura at the Bidanasi ground here, Thursday.
Overall Odisha batted 50.2 overs during the day. The match had a delayed start because of wet outfield due to overnight rain.
Odisha won the toss and decided to make first use of the apparently good batting pitch. Opener Aashirwad Swain (58 batting, 140b, 8×4, 1×6) was the pick of the Odisha batsman and held the innings together with great composure. However, the other opener Tanmay Biswal (17) got a start but failed to consolidate. The two others Odisha wickets to fall were that of Saideep Mohapatra (1) and Sudarshan Swain (14). Giving Aashirwad company at stumps was Subham Naik (34 batting, 78b, 6×4). The two have so far put on 58 runs during their unbeaten fourth-wicket stand.
Diptanu Chakrabarty (3/34) picked up all the wickets to fall on the day.
Brief scores: Odisha 133 for 3 (Aashirwad Swain 58 batting, Subham Naik 34 batting, Diptanu Chakrabarty 3/34) versus Tripura. Match to continue.
