Angul: A truck rammed into an auto-rickshaw that carried five passengers near Khalagaon under Bantala police limits in Angul district. The incident resulted in three deaths while two more sustained severe injuries, a source said Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Pitambhar Padhan, Muna Padhan, and Gundicha Padhan.

According to the source, Pitambar and Gundicha were dead at the accident spot, while Munna passed away during treatment at district headquarters hospital in Angul.

Pitambhar’s wife Jambhu Padhan and his daughter were taken to Bantala Community Health Center (CHC) for treatment, the source added.

Meanwhile, the truck driver sped away from the accident spot following the incident.

Notably, the passengers in the auto-rickshaw went to drop Pitambar’s elder daughter at her in-laws’ residence in Nuaraiguda. On the path of return, the mishap took place while they were en route to Kulasinghe Saturday night.

Local police are probing into the matter. A manhunt is on to nab the accused driver.
