Paradip: A truck driver has gone missing after he fell into River Mahanadi from Bhutamundai bridge here Sunday night.
As per reports, Alekh Nayak along with helper Raju Nayak were travelling in an iron rod-laden truck to Paradip. Around sunset Sunday, Alekh stopped the vehicle on the bridge to attend a call of nature and asked Raju to stay back in the truck.
He was reportedly chatting on his mobile phone when he missed his balance and fell into the river. Raju, on hearing the cry for help, rushed to save him but in vain. He also sought the help from fellow drivers and helpers but Alekh was missing by then.
Alekh’s family has filed a missing report at the Paradip Lock Police Station. The Police interrogated Raju in this connection. A joint team of Kunjanga Fire Service and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) are undertaking a search and rescue operation for missing Alekh.
The incident occurred within a week of one Debabrata jumping into river Kathajodi near Cuttack after a tiff with his wife. The search and rescue operations are still underway.
