Truck falls off bridge, crushes boy to death in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district

Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a minor boy was killed when a speeding sand-laden truck fell off Badajora bridge near Santhapur village under Gandia police station in Dhenkanal district Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Subha Behera, 14, a Class-VIII student and resident of Santhapur village.

The incident occurred when he had gone to the creek under the bridge to take a bath.

According to sources, the driver of the sand-laden truck (Regd No-OD 14 Q 7479) lost control of the vehicle due to rash driving and plunged off the bridge. Subha and two others were returning after taking a bath in the creek under the bridge when the mishap occurred. Subha was crushed under the truck and died on the spot.

The driver of the truck identified as Prakash Nayak also sustained critical injuries in the incident.

On being informed, Gandhia police along with Fire services personnel reached the spot and rescued the body from under the truck. A pall of gloom prevailed in the locality after the news spread.
