Balasore: At least eight passengers were injured after a bus carrying approximately 40 passengers met with an accident in Balasore district at 2.45am Friday.
The bus was rear-ended by a fast-moving truck, a source said.
The incident took place near Shantia bypass in Jaleswar area on the National Highway while the vehicle was on its way from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata. It overturned under impact of the collision.
Manoj Kumar Nayak, the bus driver, stated that he had reduced speed of the vehicle due to a recently installed speed breaker at the location. It was during this deceleration that the truck hit the bus, he added.
After being informed, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter.
In another unrelated major road mishap in the state, as many as 12 members of a marriage party were killed and seven others were injured as a private bus collided head-on with a state-run OSRTC (Odisha State Road Transport Corporation) bus in Odisha’s Ganjam district last month.
