A true friend sees the good in everything, and brings out the best in the worst of things.
Sasha Azevedo

The moment we hear the word “friends” or “friendship,” the song that comes to mind often is ‘Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahaan, Kahaan Aisa Yaarana. Yaad Karegi Duniya, Tera Mera Afsana’ from the movie Yaarana.
In Hindi movies, friendship has been an oft-used theme and there are a bunch of movies which are dedicated to friendship like Sholay, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dil Chahta Hai, Zindagi Na Mileygi Dobaara, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and many more. There are some movies that show us the complexities in friendship while there are others which are based on experiences that each one of us can relate to.
There is nothing better than having a true friend. A true friend stands by you through thick and thin. As they say, God could not be present everywhere, so He created mother likewise there are a few lucky ones who are blessed with good, loyal friends.
We can rely on good friends to share our happy times and be with us when we are going through bad times.
Friendships must be built with understanding, care, support, trust and love. Some people find it easier than others to establish and maintain friendships.
We can’t keep every friend close to our heart but there may be a few who go beyond the boundaries of friendship and become like family to us. They are the ones who, irrespective of the situation that we are in, will always be by our side.
On this Friendship Day, Sunday POST brings you a few stories of true friends.

SUPPORT GIVES STRENGTH
Cuttack based Cricbuzz commentator Kumar Abhishek talks about his close friendship with Bangalore based software engineer NavinAgarwalla
“Navin came into my life accidentally almost a decade ago, in 2009. I don’t remember how and why we bonded. We are like parallel lines and have been there for each other in good times and bad. We have been together in Bhubaneswar and have also shared an apartment in Bangalore. My mother trusts him more than me. While pursuing my engineering, I used to work and study. My office and college were about 60 km apart and every day, I used to ride to my office after attending classes in the morning. Whether it was scorching heat, heavy rain, or a cold day, the weather was never a problem because my buddy used to be a pillion rider and a huge support always. Every day, Navin and I journeyed together. He had no reason to travel with me, but he always ensured that I was not tired. After the completion of engineering, I had job offers from Infosys and Cricbuzz. Almost everyone advised me to go for Infosys but Navin had a different view. He wanted me to continue with Cricbuzz, and here I am nine years later with one of the most popular cricketing portals. Navin and Cricbuzz happened roughly at the same time, it was not a mere coincidence, but destiny.”
IN GOOD TIMES AND BAD
Anchors Lipsa Panda and Silab Satyakam, who hail from the Temple city, are best of friends, debunking the myth that a guy and a girl can never be friends.
Lipsa explains how Silab, who is six years older, has been a pillar of strength for her. She says, “We have been friends for a couple of years now. When I lost my father in 2017 and was emotionally shattered, he stood by me as I had to quit my job and look after my family. I fall short of words when I think of those days. He has always been there for me, in bad times and good times. He is also an anchor by profession and rarely have we anchored an event together. Yet, for me, he is more like my family and our relationship is beyond the realm of friendship.”
TWITTER WALA FRIEND
Mumbai based PR professional Harshita Vaishnav says Yaser Khan, who hails from Hyderabad, is her true friend.
“It’s really funny how it all started. We met on Twitter; we had a common passion– Bollywood. We collaborated in making fan clubs which became popular in the Twitter world. Yaser came to Mumbai from Hyderabad and we worked together for three years. But now he is in Australia for further studies; we are connected to each other the whole day as we keep tagging each other in memes.”
“The best thing I love about him is that he listens. I have a filmi style and have so many stories to tell; he patiently listens to everything and gives his opinion. When he is around, I feel safe and secure. It is because of him that I got the confidence to start my own company. On the personal front, he helped me get out of an unsuitable relationship. Some of my friends dislike him because he is frank, and no one can give a reality check like he does. I feel blessed to have him in my life. I wish everyone gets a friend like him,” Harshita adds.
