Tusker tramples septuagenarian

Morada: An elderly man died in elephant attack at Mahalisahi on Sarumula-Parulia main road under Morada police limits in Mayurbhanj district, Friday. The deceased was identified as Adhar Kumar Patra (75) of Bedhajhal village under Nayagram police limit in West Bengal. As per reports, Adhar had come to her daughter’s house at Sarumula village under Rasagobindapur block in the district. He had gone for a walk, Friday morning. During the walk, he came face to face with a tusker at Mahalisahi on Sarumula-Parulia main road. The tusker then attacked him and trampled him to death.

Informed, Rasagobindapur Forest department officials reached the spot, seized and sent the body to PRM Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. When asked, Purnima, daughter of the deceased, said that her father had come to her place for treatment as he was ill. Unfortunately, he died at her residence. Locals alleged that the Forest Department is unable to stop the elephant menace in the area as many people have died in elephant attacks in Rasagobindapur in the last couple of years.
