Dhenkanal: A tusker that sustained bullet injuries was treated by forest department officials and a veterinary team Friday at Gadapalasuni village under Mahabiroda forest range in Dhenkanal district.
According to sources, the pachyderm was tranquillised by forest department officials with the help of a team from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar for treatment of its wounds.
After a detailed medical examination, the wounds were cleaned and dressed. Later, antibiotic injections and other medicines were administered to the elephant.
Officials suspected that the jumbo had been shot at by poachers in the forest under Telakoi forest division in Keonjhar district around ten days ago.
