Bhubaneswar: Two Adorable Losers, an English comic play about a professor from Odisha who is weak at his English diction and a student who is an academic failure, was staged at Rabindra Mandap here Sunday.
Organised by Zain Foundation as a part of its annual fund raising charity show, the play is written and directed by Abhishek Pattnaik and has Abhishek Pattnaik and Darsheel Safary as the lead actors.
Both the student, Darsheel, and the professor played by Abhishek suffer from the same problem – inferiority complex. In an attempt to regain their lost confidence, they approach each other and try to help each other out. The duo tries to maintain a code of ethics in its professional relationship, but often ends up breaking the code from teacher-student to father-son, friends, business partners – whatever fits the description.
Organiser of the event Gargi Bhattacharya said, “We have been doing this fund raising programme, staging the same play, for the last three years with different eminent actors though.”
She added, “Although every time we went for some veteran but this time we selected a talented Odia young man Abhishek.”
A gleeful Abhishek said, “I am proud to be a part of the team which is going out on a country-wide tour staging the play at 29 states.” He hoped that the play would set “the audience rolling on the floor.”
It may be mentioned here that the Zain Foundation was founded in 2015 and since then it has been engaged in advocacy work for the autism community in Bhubaneswar through workshops, art exhibitions, rallies, as well as awareness through print and audio visuals. In 2015, it organised the famous play ‘Kaifi Aur Main’ featuring Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar, followed by one of the finest performances of Naseeruddin Shah as Einstein in 2017.
