Nuagaon: Most of the liquor shops in the state are blatantly violating rules of the Odisha Excise Act. One of the rules is that all liquor shops must close by 11:00pm and those violating it will have to pay a fine of Rs 50,000. Hotels and bars that serve liquor past the prescribe time will have to pay extra money to obtain permission beforehand.
But in spite of the rule many shops flout it openly. Recently Nuagaon police officials here, acting on a tip off arrested two persons on the charge of selling liquor past the prescribed hour Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Bhagirathi Sahu, owner of Janpath dhaba near the Nuagaon block office and Damodar Sahu of Karigiri village.
Police seized 6.84 litres of liquor from Bhagirathi and 10 litres from Damodar. Cases were registered against both and the two were forwarded to court Thursday.
