Ullunda, June 15: In a case of alleged medical negligence in Subarnapur, a 65-year-old man died after being denied treatment at the Community Health Centre here.
Family members of the man Bibeka Pradhan, a resident of Goudagaon under the block, said he was taking treatment for high blood pressure-related ailments. As his condition deteriorated, Pradhan was taken to the CHC by an ambulance.
On reaching the hospital, his relatives found no doctors and health professionals there with one of the doctors sleeping. Though Pradhan’s relatives tried to wake him up, their efforts went in vain.
Later, they took Pradhan to district headquarters hospital. However, a gynaecologist present there, refused to attend on him and advised to consult a medicine specialist.
His relatives rushed him to a medicine specialist. His condition however, became critical as the doctor arrived at the hospital more than one and half hour later. After examining the patient, the doctor referred the patient to VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla.
Later, Pradhan was shifted to VSS Medical College and Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment. Pradhan’s family members alleged that he died due to inordinate delay in treatment by doctors and demanded probe into the matter.
The victim’s family members also demanded action against persons responsible for his death. When contacted, chief district medical officer Sharat Chandra Majhi termed the death of the patient unfortunate assuring necessary action after thorough investigations.
In another case, a 15-year-old boy Manoj Mahananda, suffering from sickle cell disease, of Baunshaberna village under Sohela police limits in Bargarh district also died due to alleged negligence in treatment. The family members alleged that even after being informed Burla police did reach VSS Medical College, where he was undergoing treatment, to register a complaint.
Manoj’s family members also alleged that authorities of VSS Medical College and Hospital pressurized them to take the body without conducting post-mortem. They have demanded an investigation into the matter.
