Bhubaneswar, June 2: A team of Excise department officials arrested two non-Odia drug peddlers and seized ganja weighing around 14.5 kgs valued at around Rs.80000 from them near Barmunda bus stand here late Friday night. The accused have been identified as Jiyar-ul-Sheikh and Mustafiq Sheikh of Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
Following a tip-off, the officials followed the two accused and caught them when they got off an auto rickshaw at the Alugadi over bridge in the AIginia area. The accused persons later confessed that they had brought the contraband items from Kandhamal district by bus to the capital. They planned to take the illegal ganja to Kolkata by train.
Police registered two cases (11/18 and 15/18) under the NDPS Act, 1985 in this connection.
