Two express trains to have LHB coaches

Bhubaneswar: To enhance the safety of passengers Indian Railways has decided to replace conventional coaches of Puri-Ahmedabad-Puri Express (18405/18406) and Puri-Howrah-Puri Express (12888/12887) trains with the technologically advanced Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches.
Currently, only high speed trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi have these while other trains use the ICF (Integral Coach Factory) coaches.
Equipped with the “anti-telescopic” technology, the LHB coaches not only help reduce injuries during accidents but also support acceleration. The technology prevents coaches from crumpling and piling on top of each other in case of an accident.
The efficiency of the LHB coaches was witnessed in 2010 when Maiosts blew the track in Bihar derailing seven coaches of Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express and no casualty was recorded. These LHB coaches are designed to operate up to a speed of 160 km/hr.
The railways have given the information that all the coaches of the 18405, 18406, 12888, 12887 trains shall be replaced by June 14, June 16, June 18 and June 19 respectively.
