Two held for job fraud

Sambalpur: Police Wednesday arrested two persons on the charge of cheating job aspirants and taking lakhs of rupees from them on a promise of providing jobs in the CRPF, BSF and Railways, at Mahulpali area in this district.

The two were Sanjeev Marai of Mahulpali Badbahal village, who claimed himself to be a CRPF employee, and Suraj Singh, a homeguard of Rourkela Birsa area. Many young job-seekers of Bonai, Sundargarh, Bamra, Rourkela, Kuchinda, Kusumi and other areas had fallen prey to the fraudulent plot.

To gain the confidence of the job-seekers, the two had opened a fake training centre at Badbahal. They got ready fake appointment letters and handed them over to the job seekers. However, the job aspirants learned of being cheated when they were turned away from the local railway office that noted the appointment letters were fake.

Some of the victims were Jasun Kerketa, Arun Pratap Majhi, Bijay Gouda, Soumyaranjan Patra and Manish Dakua. They lodged a complaint with the police, leading to the arrests. The two have been remanded to custody.
