Two held for snatching

Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including a juvenile, were taken into custody on charges of snatching valuables from commuters in Kalpana area here, a senior Badagada police official said Sunday.

Biswaranjan Maharana (17) of Sarankul in Nayagarh and Kanha Lenka (19) of Laxmisagar here have been taken into custody on the basis of two cases—(92 and 93/2019) registered with Badagada police here under Section 394 and Section 25 of the Arms Act.

About the cases, the official said the duo had snatched away a cellphone from Pramod Kumar Sahoo while the victim was on his way home April 4. “The duo, borne on a motorcycle, threatened Sahoo with a revolver and made away with his smartphone,” the official pointed out adding that a case (93/19) was registered in this regard on the basis of Sahoo’s complaint.

About the second case, the official pointed out that Bidyutprava Panda had approached them April 5 alleging that two unidentified miscreants had snatched away her mother’s wallet near Paramount Club here. “However, some passersby chased and caught hold of the desperadoes before handing them over to the police,” the official said, adding that a case (92/19) was registered.

“A revolver, six cellphones, a motorcycle sans registration plate and Rs 6,000 in cash has been recovered from the duo,” another police official said.
