Two injured in suspected hyena attack

Kendrapara: Panic gripped Rajpur village in Kendrapara district after two persons including an elderly woman was injured in a suspected hyena attack at Rajpur village in Kendrapara district Thursday evening.

The victims have been identified as Pratap Chandra Das (33) and his grandmother Kamala Das.

According to locals, an animal attacked Kamala at a dark place near her house. Hearing her agonising screams, Pratap rushed to her help. However, the animal also attacked Pratap and caused grievous injuries on his face. Hearing their cries, others rushed to the spot following which the animal fled.

The two were immediately rushed to Rajnagar Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctors stated their conditions to be stable.

Even though the species of the animal is yet to be ascertained, locals suspected it to be a hyena. However, till date the presence of hyenas in the area is yet to be established.

On being informed, forest officials reached the spot and started investigation in this matter.
