Two killed in Bargarh road mishap as pickup truck rams into brick pile

Padampur: Two persons were killed on the spot in an accident that took place in the wee hours of Sunday near Dublabahal Square on Bijepur-Padampur road in Bargarh.

According to a source, a log-laden pickup truck was on its way from Sohela area to Padampur in the district. Driver of the vehicle lost control and rammed into a pile of bricks kept on the roadside. Both the driver and helper sustained grievous injuries in the road mishap and succumbed.

Some villagers informed the police about the incident. Later, a team of local police and fire services personnel reached the mishap site.

Police recovered the bodies of the driver and the helper and sent them to Padampur hospital for postmortem. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the actual cause of death and where the logs were being transported to.

“The deceased were identified as Gadan Sahu and Kartika Bagh from Talapadar area in Bargarh. The logs loaded on the pickup truck were probably being smuggled,” a police official said.

A detailed probe is underway, the official added.
