Two killed, three injured in road mishaps

Malkangiri/ Jaipatna: Two people were killed while another three sustained serious injuries in separate road mishaps in Malkangiri and Kalahandi districts, late Monday night.

Tension erupted in MV-13 area of Malkangiri district late Monday night as irate locals torched a car after it rammed into two bikers, killing them on the spot at Badali square.

The deceased have been identified as Meghnad Das and Shyamal Sen.

According to sources, the mishap occurred while the victims were travelling in their motorcycle when a speeding car collided with them head-on near Badali Chhak. The duo died on the spot under the impact of collision.

Irate by the incident, locals detained the four-wheeler and later torched it.  The agitators also staged road blockade demanding compensation for the next of kin of the deceased.

On being informed, police reached the spot and pacified the agitating locals.

In Kalahandi district, three people — including two teachers — sustained critical injuries in a road mishap that took place near Hati Bridge on Jaipatna-Mukhiguda road in Jaipatna area last night.

The injured persons were identified as Padma Kishore Naik, the headmaster of Mahulpatna High School, Kapur Singh, the headmaster of another high school in the area and Bipin Sahoo of Mukhiguda village.

According to sources, the three were returning from Jaipatna to Mukhiguda when the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident. They were rescued by the locals who rushed them to Bhawanipatna DHH, where they were undergoing treatment till the last report came in.

On being informed, the local police reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
