Koraput: Two Maoists laid down their arms before Odisha Police in Koraput district Sunday.

The Maoists were identified as Deba Padiami alias Gangi and Gita Padiami alias Rajita. They were members of Gumma Area Committee prior to their surrender. One of the surrendered held the rank of Area Commander and carried a bounty of Rs 4 lakh on head.

DGP Abhay, who was present on the occasion, welcomed the two tribals to mainstream. The Odisha Police chief also appealed other Red Rebels to join the mainstream and live a better life.

“Koraput police have done a commendable job in facilitating Maoist surrenders in the past days. The Odisha government has a very attractive rehabilitation policy and I urge all the Maoists to take advantage of it to join the mainstream,” Abhay said.

Following the surrender of Maoists, the DGP Commendation Disc was awarded to 22 personnel of Koraput district police for their work in the past days.

“Koraput has been one of the most successful districts in anti-Maoist operations. In the recent past, Koraput police have led from the front in checking Ganja smuggling. In 2020, the district topped the state in terms of cannabis haul,” the DGP further said.
