Two Nayagarh villages suffer in darkness

Nuagaon:  Residents of Atharganda and Kutibari villages under Nuagaon block of Nayagarh district continue to reel under darkness after the transformers in these villages failed about two months back.

About 30 families live in Atharganda and 15 families in Kutibari. Residents of these tribal dominated villages are suffering untold miseries in the absence of power supply.

While the children are not able to study at night properly, patients are facing a harrowing time in absence of electricity.

The villagers said they would gherao the electricity office if no action is taken to restore power supply.

When asked, the junior engineer of CESU Srinivas Rao claimed to be unaware of the development. “We had set up two transformers in these villages and had charged them. Later, the transformers failed and were fixed. I am unaware of when they failed again,” claimed Rao.

Electricity apart, these villages are yet to have all-weather road connectivity. The kuchha road that connects these villages with the outside world often becomes unnavigable during monsoon putting emergency services out of bounds of the residents.
