Two pilgrims die in road mishap

Khurda, August 9: Two Bol Bam devotees were killed while another devotee sustained grievous injuries in a road accident near Daleiput Square on NH-5 late Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Subash Bairiganjan (26) of Khuntiabanpur in Kanas block of Puri district and Kabiraj Subudhi (35) of Godakharada village.
The injured, Samir Odandaray of Sahupada in Kanas block, was undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital and his condition was stated to be critical.
According to sources, a group of five persons from Kanas block had gone to collect water from Gadagadia ghat in Cuttack from where they were headed to the Lord Biswanath temple at Khuntiabanpur.
The devotees were walking along the highway towards Khuntiabanpur when the truck hit Subash and Kabiraj from behind near Daleipur Square. They died on the spot.
The truck later hit three others including Samir, who was seriously injured. Two others survived the collision with minor injuries.
The truck driver fled the spot soon after the accident.
On being informed, a police control room van rushed to the spot and admitted Samir to the district headquarters hospital.
Police registered a case in this connection and launched a search to nab the errant truck driver. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families after post-mortem.
