Two Plus-II girls killed in road accident in Odisha’s Bargarh district

Attabira: In a tragic incident, two Plus-II girl students of Kandobahal College died and two others sustained severe injuries after being hit by a truck (OD 02 AU 7953) at Podabadi-Chhandapali Chowk on Godabhaga-Sonepur NH-54 in Bargarh district, Monday.

The deceased were identified as Anupama Mallick, 16, of Singhapali village and Jayashree Rana, 16, of Larambha village under Attabira police limits.

The injured two students were identified as Archana Set of Gambharipali village and Priyamanjari Panda, 16, of Larambha village.

While Archana has been discharged from Kandobahal government hospital after preliminary treatment, Priyamanjari is undergoing treatment at VIMSAR, Burla.

Sources said Anupama and Jayashree were returning from the college on their cycles around 11am when the truck coming from opposite direction hit them and overturned. While Anupama, Jayashree and Priyamanjari got trapped under the truck, Archana was flung on the road and sustained injuries.

Some bystanders rescued the students and rushed them to Kandobahal government hospital. However, Anupama, Jayashree and Priyamanjari were later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla as their condition deteriorated.

While Jayshree and Anupama died during the treatment, condition of Priyamanjari is stated to be critical. Police arrested the truck driver Umesh Chandra Jena of Jagatpur area.
