Bhubaneswar: Following the directions of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), the Mayurbhanj police finally initiated probe into the allegations of gang rape and murder after registering case against accused persons including officials of Bheden police station. The Superintendent of Police (SP) also instructed S Sahoo, the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bargarh to investigate the allegations as per the recommendation of the OHRC , September 23.

As per the FIR, seven persons (two police officials and five villagers) have been accused of raping three women and the murdering two of them.

Three women of a family, which was ostracized by the village, went to police station in order to lodge a complaint against the injustice meted out to them by the villagers September 23 September, 2016. However, they were allegedly gang-raped by some police officers who later handed over the trio to the villagers. The villagers, by keeping them locked in a secluded place in the jungle, raped them repeatedly there. However, one of them managed to escape from the spot. She later revealed the matter to the complainant, the brother-in-law of the victim.

However, the police officials did not register any case in connection with the complaint filed by the victim’s brother in law.  Later, the victims approached Advocate Nishikant Mishra who approached the OHRCs intervention in the case.
