Two school teachers among 3 killed in Boudh road accident

Boudh: Two school teachers were killed in a road mishap in Boudh district Saturday. The deceased were identified as Md Ajim Khan, 55, and Jyotirmayee Pradhan, 42, both science teachers of Boudh Government Girls’ High School.

According to sources, the teachers were on their way to school Saturday on a motorbike when the incident occurred. A speeding car en route to Bhubaneswar from Nabarangpur collided with their motorbike on National Highway-57.

The impact of the collision was so severe that both the vehicles were thrown into a farm along the highway. Ajim’s limbs were separated from his body while Jyotirmayee sustained serious injuries.

People aboard the vehicle- Jagbandhu Naik, JE of Pahadahandi block, Madhusudan Das, JE of Kusagumuda and Akash Naik, additional fisheries officer of Pahadahandi and Durga Charan Hansda fled, leaving the two teachers battling for life.

The two were left in a pool of blood until passersby spotted them and rushed them to a local hospital. However, doctors declared them brought dead. Locals alleged that while Ajim had died on the spot, Jyotirmayee could have been saved. However, due to excess bleeding and delay in taking her to a hospital, claimed her life.

Angry locals also alleged that the four government employees allegedly dragged the two teachers alongside a canal near the NH before escaping from the spot.

Meanwhile, some villagers chased the four and thrashed them black and blue before handing them over to police. Angry locals blocked the NH for two hours, demanding stringent action against the accused.

Additional Collector NC Jyotiranjan Naik and Deputy Collector Khadal Patra reached the spot and pacified the mob after which the bodies were seized and sent for post-mortem. When contacted, Boudh IIC Subash Chandra Raiguru said the four government employees have been detained and a probe is on while the vehicle driver was on the run.

In another incident, a ‘kanwariya’ (bol bom devotee) died while three others sustained critical injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in hit a roadside tree near Puruna Cuttack on NH- 57. The ‘kanwariyas’ were on their way to Harishankar from Nayagarh when the mishap occurred. The local police reached the spot and are probing the matter.
