Udala: Youth dies due to medical negligence

Udala: Tension prevailed at Udala Government Hospital after a youth died due to alleged negligence of doctors Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Dillip Ghadai, 26, a resident of Bhandaripokhari in Mayurbhanj district.

Sources said, Dillip had tried to commit suicide by consuming poison Thursday evening at Udala bus stand.  He was brought to the local government hospital immediately by the locals. Though Dillip was admitted, a doctor who was on outdoor duty at that time could not come to attend to Dillip.

Seeing his condition, other staff at the hospital had attended on him. But after some time, he died at the hospital. Locals alleged that Dillip had to wait for hours for treatment.

Soon after, alleging medical negligence, the family members along with some locals created ruckus in the hospital and demanded action against the doctors present when Dillip died.

After some time, agitators locked the main gate of the hospital. As a result, other patients and their relatives in the hospital had to face various problems.

Meanwhile, police rushed to the spot and seized the body. The agitators called off their protest after police assured that if any dereliction of duty on the part of the doctors is found, appropriate and stern action will be taken against them.

Police said that the body was sent for post-mortem and further investigation is on.

When Sub-Divisional Medical Officer Dr. Sibananda Mohanty was asked about this, he said Dillip was admitted in critical condition. We were doing the treatment of Dillip. And the allegation of negligence in treatment is baseless, added SDMO.
