Bhubaneswar: The University Grants Commission (UGC) approved under graduate (UG) and post graduate (PG) courses to be offered by Odisha State Open University (OSOU) from 2018-19 to 2022-23 academic session.
The Distance Education Bureau of UGC granted permission to OSOU will offer 26 Courses through the Open and Distance Learning Mode, official sources said.
OSOU Vice-Chancellor Srikant Mohapatra said, “This is a historic moment for OSOU and students of Odisha. We received approval for almost all the courses we applied for. Students from any part of Odisha can now complete Bachelors or Masters Degree through our technology enabled distance learning programme modules.”
The University will run the approved programmes through its study centres located at various university campuses and autonomous colleges across the state.
“One can be assured about the quality of teaching. Students will be allowed to appear the exams in either English or Odia,” informed Mohapatra.
Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English, Hindi, History, Journalism, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Sanskrit; Bachelor of Commerce (Hons), BBA, BSc in Livelihoods And Sustainable Development are the under graduate courses to be offered by the open university.
Similarly, OSOU has received the nod to run Master degree programmes in Economics, English, Hindi, History, Journalism, Sanskrit, Odia, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Rural Development, Sociology, Commerce (M.Com) and Cyber Security (MSc).
OSOU was established by an Act of the Odisha State Legislature in 2015. Presently the university offers certificate, diploma and post graduate diploma programmes in 42 subjects. Around 10,000 students from different parts of Odisha are currently studying in the varsity.
As per the UGC guideline all the admission process for UG and PG programmes will be completed before October 1 2018 and soon a notification in this regard will be published.
