Ultras kill ‘tipster’; posters trigger panic

Malkangiri/Saintala: After a brief lull, Maoists struck again and killed a person at Godaput under Chitrakonda police limits in Malkangiri district Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Sundar Hantal (25).

Sources said the ultras killed him by slashing his throat, suspecting him as a police informer.

According to reports, a group of 15/20 Maoists had abducted Sundar from his village about three days ago. His family members and villagers had been searching for him without success.

The rebels Saturday held a Praja Court at Simidipadar village where they branded him as a police informer and slashed his throat as an act of revenge.
The Maoists had also reportedly threatened the villagers of facing such fate if they act as police informers. A letter was left near the body.

The villagers of Simapadar had informed the family of Sundar about the incident. Later, the victim’s family retrieved the body.

The incident has struck terror among villagers. Fearing Maoist attack, the villagers have not lodged any complaint. Local police have no information about the killing.
Meanwhile, reports from Saintala in Bolangir said, Maoists have become active in the border areas of Bolangir and Kalahandi even as SOG jawans are carrying out anti-Maoist operation at Tikrapada area.

Maoist posters were found pasted Saturday at Belagaon and Nabina Chhak. Written with red ink and using Oriya letters, the posters are believed to have been pasted by the ultras, claiming to be members of CPI Bikash Mahasamud Divsision.

In the posters, the ultras accused three ministers like Sanjay Das Burma, Arun Sahu and Puspendra Singhdeo of being involved in chit fund frauds in the state. The rebels wanted immediate dismissal of these ministers from the cabinet.
