Nuapada: A local cadre Maoist — identified as Parsuram Dharua alias Mantu alias Parsuram Majhi — Saturday surrendered before the Nupada Superintendent of police (SP).
Majhi laid down his arms before Nuapada SP Smit Parshottamdas Parmar and expressed his wish to join the mainstream of society and lead a normal life.
He attributed his surrender to the ill-treat of senior and torture of senior Maoists.
Briefing media later in the day, Paramar said, “His involvement in a blast in which a policeman sustained injury is being suspected, but yet to be confirmed. We are also yet to confirm his involvement in few other cases. Hpwever, his involvement has been established in pasting posters and blocking the road by felling trees at Sinapali area during observance of their ‘Saheed Saptah’ (martyr’s week).”
Interestingly, the SP pointed out that Parsuram is the last cadre Maoist from this district.
Parmar further pointed out that the cadre Maoist left the party because he was inducted forcefully and not on his own wish. This apart, the humiliation meted out to the Odia cadre by the Telugu and Chhattisgarh cadres also played a part.
Parsuram was also harassed and tortured by his own. Besides, his health condition was not good and the incessant anti-naxal operation by the police forces prompted him to surrender, Parmar added.
According to a press released on this occasion, it was highlighted that Parsuram was involved in Maoist activities since 2014-15 as a militia before his surrender today.
He had joined Mainpur-Nuapada Division in June 2017 and was part of the Sinapali LOS of CPI (Maoist). He was forcefully inducted into the cadre by Anju (DCM), Kanti, Ranjit and Seema. He operated in Nuapada, Kalahandi and Gariyaband (Chhattisgarh) district area.
While Odisha Government had declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest, he will be now rehabilitated as per the surrender policy of the State Government.
The press release also revealed that five other local cadre Maoists have already surrendered and arrested last year by the Nuapada district police.
