Uncertainty looms large over Netaji Birthplace Museum beautification project

Cuttack: Uncertainty looms large over timely completion of the beautification works at Netaji Birthplace Museum here.
The apprehension comes in the wake a decision taken at a meeting chaired by tourism and culture minister Ashok Panda December 20 to add some new plans to the beatification project.
One of the crucial decisions was to paint the building walls with ivory colour. The task was entrusted with Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), and it was supposed to be completed by January 15, before the birth anniversary of Netaji January 23.
However, the completion of the painting work before Netaji’s birth anniversary seems to be an arduous task as the CMC is yet to begin the work.
Proper cleaning of the museum surroundings and repairing of the street lights on the roads connecting the museum, among others, were also not initiated.
An engineering team visited the museum Friday to take stock of the work. CMC commissioner, however, assured the work would be wrapped up by January 20.
The CMC officials had to prepare estimation of the painting work and also had to take consent of the building owners, whose house walls would be painted, with the help of local corporator Arun Sethi.
However Sethi accused the CMC of not taking the task seriously. “I have apprised CMC several times, but in vain,” he said.
