According to sources, the bridge collapsed from the centre during construction of a concrete roof over it.

Locals were happy that the bridge was nearing completion, which would have benefited them a lot. The under-construction bridge caved in owing to poor quality of material and construction work, some local residents alleged. They have demanded a probe into the matter.

An official of the constriction firm brushed away the allegations. “We have constructed many bridges in the past, but this kind of problem has never occurred. We are trying to find out the reason behind the caving in of the central portion. We will soon find out why the bridge collapsed,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
