Undertrial father, son escape from court; 4 cops suspended

Keonjhar: Four police personnel were suspended in Keonjhar Tuesday after two accused – a man and his son –managed to escape from the police custody on the district and sessions judge court premises during hearing of their bail plea. The two were booked in a caste-related case.

Accused Dasarathi Khuntia and his son Anil Khuntia of Saruali village under Telkoi police limits had surrendered before the police Monday. They were produced in the court which had rejected their bail plea. However, they escaped from the court.

Later, the police managed to nab Anil and took him into custody.

Taking serious note of the incident, SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra suspended sub-inspector Dusmant Singh and constables Manorama Sethi, Sibani Nayak and Renubala Mahanta.

Keonjhar SDPO PJ Toppo said the police personnel were suspended for dereliction of duty.
