Bhubaneswar: Concerned over the financial hardship faced by students of Odisha in meeting their educational requirement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Union Minister Pratap Sarangi Thursday in a letter urged Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to relax school fees of students.
In his letter, Sarangi placed some points before Patnaik, which read;
- Full exemption of school fees for the corona warriors
- 50 per cent relaxation of school fees for the remaining students
- Full exemption of hostel fees during the period of the closure of hostels in all educational institutions
Sarangi wrote the letter to CM Patnaik after receiving petitions regarding the financial hardships faced by students in meeting their educational requirements during this difficult time.

Sarangi said that there is a lurking fear that many students from poor financial backgrounds may discontinue their education as COVID-19 has adversely impacted the livelihood of their parents making their condition truly indigent.

Besides, it is imperative that the government should stand by the side of the people during this unprecedented time and also recognize the contribution of the COVID Warriors in dealing with the crises, Sarangi said.
