Berhampur: Ganjam health department has topped charts pan-India in drawing the maximum number of footfalls to district hospitals. It has received a ‘certificate of excellence’ from the National Health Mission director Shalini Pandit May 2 to this effect.
According to the data available, the health department here has set a benchmark in the entire country by indentifying and providing treatment to 3.65 lakh patients among who there were people affected by blood pressure, cancer, diabetes and liquor addiction.
Odisha government’s health and family welfare department had originally asked the district health administration to identify 3,00,00 blood pressure, cancer and liquor addiction victims.
“The district health department has identified and treated 3.65 lakh classified patients which is above the given target. In fact in this case, the success rate has been 121%. We have been awarded for bringing maximum number of patients under district healthcare ambit,” informed Shyam Sundar Tripathy, a DPM in Ganjam district administration.
The district administration said that after receiving the target District Collector Bijay Amrut Kulange had prepared a blueprint and a campaign was started to achieve the target – making it the only district to have done so.
As a part of this drive, ASHAs and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM) visited each and every house of the district to carry out a survey. They had to collect information regarding family members that are above 30 years old and had blood pressure issues, cancer, diabetes and drug addiction.
In the next phase, the ASHAs brought them to ANMs and later they were taken to different health centres including Berhampur City Hospital based on their need of treatment.
