Unity Run to celebrate Patel’s birth aniv

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, organised a mini marathon— Unity Run— to mark the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel here Sunday.

The premier institute’s director RV Raja Kumar offered floral tribute to Patel and flagged off a mini marathon that started from the institute’s administrative building here and went up to Haribhaina Square in Jatni from where it returned to end at the institute’s main gate, covering a distance of approximately 8km. Around 550 students and faculty among others took part in the event.

Director Kumar reminded students about the sacrifice and contributions of the Iron Man in the country’s freedom struggle as well as in unifying the nation. He reiterated that the objective of Unity Run is to make citizens understand the importance of unity of all sections and to maintain regional cooperation.

They saw unprecedented participation from the local people throughout the run, a source said.
