Pottangi: A yet-to-be diagnosed disease has claimed four lives in the last 12 days at two villages of Maliput panchayat under this block in Koraput district, causing panic among villagers.
According to reports, the first symptom of the disease is stomach ache. A medical team has started treating patients after camping in the villages.
However, the team is yet to identify the disease.
According to reports, two villagers from Sindei under ward number-7 complained of stomach pain Saturday. Their condition did not improve even after taking medicine from the health centre. Later, they died and their last rites were performed Sunday.
Besides, two villagers of Joginayakguda under the same ward died September 4, showing similar symptoms.
Expressing concern over the situation, sarpanch Jayanti Chapadi said that more than 100 villagers are suffering from the unknown disease.
