Cuttack: Union Sporting Club (USC) and Gymkhanna, Rourkela registered convincing victories against their respective opponents in the matches of Mulberry Cuttack Premier League here, Wednesday.
In the first match of the day USC defeated Trail Blazzers by 38 runs. Chasing a victory target of 136 runs, the Blazzers were restricted to 97 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their stipulated 20 overs, thanks to some splendid bowling from the USC bowlers.
Sagar Rout (22, 23b) and Srijay Mohanty (21, 24b) were the only notable scorers for Blazzers. For USC, Md Akram (2/20), Sourav Kanojia (2/20) and Niranajan Behera (2/12) got two wickets each.
Earlier, opting to bat first, USC rode on knocks from Akram (42, 29b), Ombikash Nayak (35, 39b) and Niranjan (30, 28b) to post 135 runs for the loss of eight wickets. For Blazzers, Piyush Pattnaik (2/24) and Asis Pradhan (2/33) were the pick of the bowlers.
In the other match of the day, Gymkhana, Rourkela won against Paramount Sporting by five wickets. Batting first, Paramount Sporting were bowled out for 110 runs in 19.5 overs. Soumyaranjan Biswal (30, 33b) top scored for Paramount. For Gymkhana, Pritam Jena (3/24) was the pick of the bowlers.
Chasing 111 runs for victory, Gymkhana romped home with an over to spare for the loss of five wickets with Swastik Samal (46, 35b) top scoring. Kartik Biswal (3/17) was the pick of the Paramount bowlers.
