Cuttack: The 52nd annual conference of Urological Society of India (USICON-2019) is scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar from January 23 to 26.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the conference January 24. Altogether 2,500 urologists from across the country and abroad would participate in the four-day conference, said sources in the organising committee for USICON-2019.
“At least 120 urologists from SAARC countries and 25 from Europe and America would participate in the conference. Odisha is hosting the event for the second time after a gap of 20 years,” said LK Sahu, chairman of the organising committee for the conference.
According to Sahu, the conference would focus on modern technologies available for urology. Besides, experts would deliberate on the utilisation of modern technology to treat people suffering from urological disorder.
“The experts from abroad would enlighten the urologists with modern technologies. Besides, there would be an exhibition on equipment required for robotic, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries in urology,” Sahu said.
Organising committee secretary Datteswar Hota said India, China and the USA would open three skill laboratories at the conference. “The four-day event would primarily deliberate on robotic surgery,” Hota added.
Notably, SCB Medical College and Hospital here is scheduled to begin robotic surgery this year. The state government has sanctioned Rs 12 crore to arrange infrastructure for the purpose. “SCB would be the first government-run hospital in the country to introduce robotic surgery,” Hota claimed.
