Bhubaneswar: Utkal University authorities Thursday postponed all mid-semester examinations after two students of Biotechnology Department and an employee of the varsity tested positive for COVID-19.
According to sources, the examinations have been deferred until further notice. Decision regarding the exams will be taken after improvement in the COVID-19 situation, an official said.
The university authorities have started sanitising various departments and hostels in view of the detection of new cases in the campus. Apart from this, rapid antigen testing of hostel inmates will be carried out with the help of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Notably, four students of the varsity had tested positive for the deadly virus April 12 and one student April 11.
Some students of the university had led an agitation and also staged a roadblock on the nearby national highway a few days ago. The agitating students had then demanded not to close the hostels.
Those student leaders have also been infected by COVID-19 virus in the meanwhile. The number of COVID-19 cases in the university is likely to go up, a university official expressed.
