Vedanta launches free cataract surgery drive

Bhubaneswar/Lanjigarh: Vedanta launched the first phase of its free cataract surgery drive at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district Monday on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons. The initiative aims at providing quality health services to the people of the region.

The campaign was flagged off in partnership with Vedanta Hospital, Punarutthan (an NGO) and Lepra Mahanadi Eye Hospital, Sonepur.

“After preliminary check-ups the patients are now scheduled to be operated on at the Lepra Mahanadi Eye Hospital in Sonepur after consultation with specialist doctors,” an official from Vedanta Hospital said.

Around 36 patients from Lanjigarh and peripheral villages like Chanalima, Belamba, Harekrushnapur, Kenduguda, Kotduar, Mushanal, Mohanguda, Nangalbeda, Leptaguda, Maskapadar, Patrapada, Bilatipadar, Bhatguda, Pediguda and Kasibadi have been referred for the cataract surgery.

Over 320 patients were treated in the earlier phases of cataract surgery campaigns.
