Vendors to face action if they sell potato and onions at exorbitant rates

Shergarh: The district administration has warned vendors here against hoarding and selling of potato and onions at exorbitant prices. Unscrupulous potato traders in this district of Balasore have resorted to such means since the news of Cyclone Fani affecting the district became public.

The administration has said that those who are selling potato and onions at exorbitant prices will be identified and disciplinary measures will be taken against them.

Here potato and onions were being sold at Rs 25 and Rs 35 a kilogram respectively Wednesday. On being informed, a team comprising tehsildar Dayasindhu Parida, IIC Ramesh Chandra Dash, supply inspector Sarat Kumar Rout, ASI Raghunath Majhi and some block employees conducted raids at 17 shops. They found that both potato and onions were being sold at excessive rates.

The shopkeepers have been directed to display the price of potato at Rs 14/kg and onions at Rs 18/kg.

“If anyone is found demanding more than the fixed price, action would be initiated against them”, informed the tehsildar.
