Veteran Odia film director ‘Raju Mishra’ breathes his last

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia film director and cinematographer Raj Gopal Mishra passed away Monday at his residence in Jatani area of Khurda district. He was 72 years old.

Raj Gopal Mishra popularly known as Raju Mishra died due to cardiac arrest, informed his wife Pratima Manjari to the media persons Monday.

Mishra has directed many Odia films. Among the many popular ones are ‘Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi’, ‘Asuchi Mo Kalia Suna’, ‘Pua Mora Kala Thakura’, ‘Jor Jaar Mulak Taar’, ‘Sagar Ganga’, ‘Rupa Gaan Ra Suna Kaniya’ and ‘Sata Micha’.

Mishra had received the prestigious Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award 2020 for his lifetime achievements and invaluable contribution to Odia cine industry in the month of October. He has also received several awards including Jayadev Samman in 2014 for his lifelong achievements.

Besides Odia films, Mishra has also directed seven Assamese films. He is an alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
