Balasore/Sambalpur/Bolangir: A video which shows worms coming out from fish pieces while frying in hot oil went viral.
The video was uploaded by a person from Soro in Balasore district.
The woman recorded the video when she saw worms on fish pieces and uploaded it on social media.
“We are aware of the fact that chemicals used to store dead bodies have been found in fish. After today’s incident we have decided to stop buying this toxic fish in near future,” a member of the family said.
Meanwhile, after detection of carcinogenic formalin in Pomfret fish samples in Bhubaneswar, officials from Sambalpur and Bolangir Wednesday conducted raids on several fish markets in the districts.
The raid was conducted following an order from the District Collector.
The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation and fisheries officials conducted joint raids on fish markets and godowns at nine places in Sambalpur city. Samples of imported Andhra fish and local Hirakud fish were collected for examination.
Similarly, in Bolangir, the State Civil Supplies Department raided shops in Rugudipada fish market.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Food Safety, in a letter had directed all the District Public Health Officers of 30 districts along with the five municipal corporations to collect fish samples and send it to the Food Testing Laboratory for quality testing.
During a raid at Unit-IV wholesale fish market in Bhubaneswar, a 12-member technical team of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development.
Department had collected samples of nine varieties of fish and after laboratory analysis, Pomfret fish was found positive for containing formalin.
