Vig court convicts 3 corrupt RDA officials

Rourkela: A Vigilance Court in Sundargarh has sentenced three officials of the Rourkela Development Authority (RDA) to Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) after convicting them of corruption.

The convicted officials are Medisetti Seshadri, ex-secretary, Siva Charan Mohanty, ex-executive engineer, PHD-cum-engineering member and Manoj Kumar Dash, legal assistant, of RDA. They were chargesheeted by Odisha Vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988/34 IPC for their alleged involvement in a corruption case. The first two accused Seshadri and Mohanty were convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh for abusing their official power and showing undue official favour by violating rules of the government for pecuniary gain. The court sentenced both Mohanty and Dash to rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000.

In case of default, they will undergo an additional jail term of three months or more. A non-bailable warrant has been issued against Medisetti Seshadri as he did not appear before the court for hearing of his sentence. Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Mohanty, and dismissal of Dash from service following their conviction. Bishnu Charan Dash, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Sambalpur Division had investigated the case and Special Public Prosecutor Shyam Sundar Mishra conducted the case on behalf of Vigilance, Sundargarh
