Rourkela: An assistant executive engineer of NH Division, Jharsuguda was arrested by the state Vigilance department after she was caught in the trap laid by the Vigilance sleuths, Thursday while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 27,000 from the complainant contractor. The official identified as Sanjukta Singha allegedly demanded the amount as a bribe for releasing payment towards the final bill related to works executed by the contractor.

As per reports, Vigilance laid a trap April 20 based on the contractor’s complaint where the accused Sanjukta Singha, AEE was caught red-handed by the sleuths at her office. The entire bribe amount was recovered from her possession in the presence of witnesses. Both her hands gave positive chemical reactions confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by her.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches for disproportionate assets were launched on her residential government quarter at Jharsuguda, her house in her native village Korihanda under Bhograi PS limits, and her office room at Jharsuguda. In connection with the case, a case had been registered 19 April at Rourkela Vigilance PS. Singha was recruited as an assistant executive engineer and joined service April 26, 2021. After two months of training, she was posted to 26 June, 2021 and was continuing since then.
