Vigilance arrests police sub-inspector for demanding, accepting bribe of Rs 50,000

Jagatsinghpur: A team of Vigilance sleuths Wednesday arrested a sub-inspector of Sadar police station at Kandarpur area in Jagatsinghpur district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The arrested police official was identified as Biswajit Gadnayak. The Vigilance team caught him red-handed while he was accepting the bribe from one Pritam Mohanty inside the police station.

According to a Vigilance source, the police official demanded bribe for the mutual settlement of a case. Pritam informed the anti-corruption wing about it. The officials later laid a trap leading to Gadnayak’s arrest.

The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Gadnayak. A smear of chemical on both hands of the police official confirmed the acceptance of bribe after wash, an official said.

Later, the anti-corruption personnel arrested Gadnayak and initiated a probe in this connection. A case under PC (Amendment) Act has been registered against the police official.
