Vigilance sleuths raid houses of 6 officials

Bhubaneswar: Separate teams of Vigilance sleuths carried out simultaneous raids on houses of six officials, over allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to known sources income.

Other charges were also levelled against the six officials for criminal misconduct, misappropriation of public money, forgery and criminal conspiracy in illegally settling valuable government lands in favour of ineligible beneficiaries under the Vasundhara scheme.

According to a Vigilance official, raids were conducted at nine different locations including those in this city, Cuttack, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur districts.

The six officials against whom DA charge was framed include former tehsildar of Kujang presently working as tehsildar at Tihidi Ramesh Chandra Panda, retired sub-collector of Jagatsinghpur, Mahendra Prasad Mohanty, former revenue inspector (RI) of Jhimani circle Santosh Kumar Mallick, retired RI of Paradeep Garh Narendra Kumar Lenka, former RI of Kujang Subash Chandra Das and former RI of Pandua Jyoti Bhusan Barik, informed the vigilance official.

Vigilance PS case (No-4, dated-22.08.2021 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(a) PC Amendment Act, 2018 along with Sections 466/409/120-B of IPC) has been registered in this connection.

Notably, nine teams led by a Vigilance Additional SP, 11 DSPs and six Inspectors are conducting the searches that are presently on at the time of filing this report.
