Malkangiri: Even as the state government has been implementing a host of schemes for the development of backward regions, there are many villages in this district which are still reeling under neglect and obscurity, a report said.
Goiguda village in Bonda Ghat area of the Maoist-infested district is a case in point. Thanks to the apathy of the district administration, the village lacks a good road and a school even after so many years of the country’s Independence.
As a result, children in the village study under the open sky, though a school was established in 2008. But it lacks infrastructure. In fact, the school building has been half-completed since then. None can say when it will be completed and when the children could get a classroom to study. In the ‘open classroom,’ the children read out aloud as the teacher does not have a blackboard to explain.
As the village does not have a good road, residents have to risk their lives and cross two nullahs to reach the other side.
The district administration instead of tackling the problems of the residents in Bonda Ghat has turned a mute spectator as the people continue to languish in neglect. As a result, many of the villages in the area present a picture of backwardness and underdevelopment.
When district education officer Ramesh Chandra Sethy in Malkangiri was contacted about the lack of any infrastructure for the school, he said that urgent steps would be taken to complete the remaining work of the school building.
