Malkangiri: Driven by superstition, hundreds of people from Sikhapalli village Thursday prayed at the spot where a man died recently in a road mishap here.
The wife of the deceased, their three kids and the villagers placed paddy, water and a cock at the spot while praying. They also placed the dead man’s favourite dishes and a bottle of country liquor on the spot as part of the ritual.
Sources said Imra Kabasi, 30, son of Naka Kabasi of Sikhapalli village, was going to his relative’s place on a bike to harvest paddy. Imra lost control over his bike and fell off near a jungle on the Namaguda-Matapaka Road and died last week.
Thinking that Imra’s ‘spirit’ might be roaming around at the spot the villagers went to the place, which is 15 km away from the village, held prayers and conducted his last rites.
The villagers believed that this would bring the ‘evil spirit’ back with them to the village in order to complete the last rites.
